Recruitment entrepreneur and board advisor. Four decades of experience building businesses, developing founders and making the decisions that create lasting value.
James started in recruitment before founding Alexander Mann. He went on to co found Humana International, developing an executive search network spanning 30 countries.
Through Hamilton Bradshaw and Ingenia, he took that experience into backing and mentoring other founders. His ZRG board appointment adds external board experience to a career built as an owner.
His public profile is well known. The foundation beneath it is practical: clients, people, leadership, growth and the discipline of building a business.
James built his first recruitment company around niche markets, customer acquisition, retention and developing the value of each client relationship. The business grew from a single London office into an international group.
The Alexander Mann story also includes Alexander Mann Solutions, the outsourcing business founded by Rosaleen Blair. AMS was acquired by OMERS for £820 million, and was then acquired by Korn Ferry from OMERS Private Equity. Those later transactions are part of the business's subsequent history, not James's own exit.

Global reach
International growth is where ZRG's scale story shows most clearly: a firm that was largely US and UK based in 2021 now delivers across the Middle East, Australasia, Asia, Latin America and continental Europe, and international revenue has become a fast growing part of the mix.
James's connection
International expansion is a subject James knows from the inside. He co founded Humana International and built an executive search network spanning 30 countries, and today advises Ingenia, a group of specialist recruitment businesses operating in more than 60 countries. As a ZRG board director, he brings that operator's experience to the boardroom oversight of ZRG's own international build out.

04 / How James works with leadership teams
Candid counsel, at the pace the business needs.
James works directly with owners and their leadership teams, as he has done through the Hamilton Bradshaw portfolio and as a board director at ZRG Partners. The relationship is practical: working sessions focused on the decisions that shape value, not reports that gather dust.
He speaks from experience rather than theory, having founded, scaled, backed and exited recruitment businesses himself, and he holds the relationship to the standard he would want in his own boardroom: candid, prepared and honest about what is working and what is not.
01
Strategy sessions with the founder and leadership team
Regular working sessions on the decisions that matter: growth plans, organisational structure, talent and the timing of each step.
02
Candid challenge from an owner's perspective

03

Founder and leadership development
Mentoring the people around the founder, developing consultants into leaders as he did across his own businesses.
05
Access to a wider network
Introductions across recruitment founders, buyers and specialist operators, including the Hamilton Bradshaw and Ingenia communities.
The scope and cadence of an advisory relationship are agreed directly with the business, shaped around what it needs at its stage of growth.
Mentorship in action
Beyond capital. A guide, strategist and trusted advisor.
At the core of every investment James makes is mentorship. He partners with entrepreneurs to help them navigate the challenges of scaling and succeed in competitive markets.
Right now, James is mentoring recruitment entrepreneurs in the UK, US and MENA, with a particular focus on the fast growing world of fractional leadership. His support helps founders not just grow businesses, but grow into the leaders the industry needs next.
